MORE ABOUT THE YOUTH CAMP
Q: How long have you been around?
A: JoJo created this camp in 1993.
Q: Who are the counselors?
A: All our counselors must have previous experience working with
children. All are athletic and great role models. All are first
Aid and CPR certified. And all the ones in charge of watersports
also have lifeguard certifications. All counselors are
pre-screened and go through extensive background checks.
Q: What's the camper to counselor ratio?
A: 5 to 1
MONEY MATTERS
Q: What if I'm not comfortable giving my credit card
online?
A: A lot of people are still not comfortable trusting the
internet! A secure server means your credit card number
will be encrypted while in transit to our e-mail. So if anyone
were to intercept it, all they would be able to read is a bunch
of meaningless code, totally useless to them. But if you are
still uncomfortable signing up online, you can:
- Print the registration page, fill it in and FAX it with your credit card number to 530-550-0778
- Print the registration page, fill it in and MAIL it with your credit card number or check to: P.O. Box 3297, Olympic Valley, CA 96146
- CALL us and register over the phone 1-800-PRO-CAMP (1-530-550-0505 from outside US)
Q: I've signed up, now what?
A: If you signed up through our secure server, you will receive
an e-mail confirmation. If you faxed or mailed your registration,
you will receive your confirmation through "snail" mail. We will
mail out additional information to our campers in May, containing
a list of what to bring, medical form, travel info, directions to
camp, camp rules and waivers for all the sports (parents need to
sign and return)
Q: What is your cancellation Policy?
A: A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your
child's place at camp. In the event of a cancellation this
deposit can be applied to future year's tuition for any family
member.
SAFETY
Q: What is your safety record?
A: Our safety record is exceptional. In 2005 we are going
through the American Camping Association Accreditation procedure
as an assurance to parents of our commitment to safety.
Q: Where is the nearest hospital?
A: The nearest hospital is Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, 5
miles away from camp. We also have a new paramedics/firestation
next door.
Q: How safe are the activities?
A: Although our activities are "EXTREME", they are more based on
a perceived feeling of risk rather than actual risk. Because we
use top of the line equipment, qualified staff and enforce strict
safety rules, all our activities are very high in adrenaline and
very low on risk. In fact, the most "dangerous" activity we do is
Mountain Biking, kids do fall off bikes!
CAMPERS
Q: My 2 children are attending the same week but
different camps, will they still see each other?
A: Yes - all camps take their meals together and share the
afternoon and evening activities. All they have to do is choose
to be together for that day.
Q: I signed up for 2 weeks of soccer, what if I want
to switch to Extreme during camp?
A: You cannot switch camps while the week is in session.
Once you have started with one camp you must finish it. At the
end of the session, it's OK to switch camps as long as we have
your parents approval
Q: What if my child is nervous about attending camp
without a friend?
A: A lot of our campers come alone. They all arrive on Sunday
with one idea in mind... to make new friends! So attending our
camp alone is never a problem.
Q: I've just spent a week at camp and loved it... Can
I stay another week?
A: If you decide during your session that you would love to stay
an extra week, and we have space available, no problem! We'll
call your parents and find out if they can live without you one
more week.
Q: I'm coming with my buddy, can we be
together?
A: Absolutely; select to room together, eat at the same
table... just pick the same daily activities and you'll make sure
to share this whole camp experience with your best bud!
Q: I hate my brother, do I have to be with
him?
A: No, just tell us and we'll make sure that whatever activities
you pick, your paths won't cross. Who knows, you might even get
to miss him a little. ;-)
CAMP ACTIVITIES
Q: What if my child wants to go Jet Skiing but I don't
want him to?
A: That's OK - Campers aren't allowed to do any activity without
the parent's written permission. If you choose for them not to
participate a certain activity, do not feel bad, there are plenty
of other choices to fill their week.
Q: How do campers pick their
activities?
A: Every Sunday campers choose the activities they would most
like to participate in for the following week. As long as they
have signed waivers for each activity they can try all extreme
activities as many times as they like... the tuition price
includes all day and evening activities.
Q: How many times can I do my favorite
activity?
A: Most activities are pretty much available all the time,
weather permitting. You will get to try every activity. Isn't
that what you came here for?
Q: What about waivers?
A: After you sign up, we will send you a package of waivers with
a list of all the sports we offer. The parents need to check and
sign off on all the sports and mail it back to us before camp
starts.
Q: Can I bring my own equipment?
A: Here is what sport equipment you should and should not bring
to camp:
- Paintball: You may bring your paintball gun if you own one (no fully automatic) Do not bring paint. We provide enough paint for each session, if you go overboard you can buy more. Those not owning a gun will be provided one.
- Skateboard Park/BMX: Bring your own skateboard, in-line skates, or BMX bike. Helmet, wrist guards, knees and elbow pads are mandatory.
- Go-Kart racing: We'll provide you with ALL the protective equipment, all you need is a pair of jeans and some High Top shoes, high enough to cover the ankle
- Extreme Mountain Biking: You may bring your own bike.
- Tennis: Bring your own racquet
- Golf: No need to bring your clubs, we'll provide some for you
- Horseback Riding: Leave your horse at home...
MULTIPLE WEEKS
Q: What do we do on week-ends?
A: For those lucky enough to spend multiple weeks with us, there
is always plenty to do on the week-ends: hiking in the Sierras,
going for a plunge at Emerald Pools, cruising Lake Tahoe on the
boat, lounging by the pool at High Camp, cheering JoJo on at the
Reno Kart Club Races, visiting historical landmarks at Donner
Lake or Emerald Bay and so much more...
Q: Is there an extra charge for staying the
week-end?
A: NO! We'll entertain you and feed you free of charge!
Q: Is there a discount for multiple
weeks?
A: YES, our discount is the FREE week-end in between
sessions!
Q: How many weeks do most campers stay?
A: About 55% of our campers stay one week, attending either
camp. Another 30% stay 2 to 4 weeks, either at the same camp or
combining weeks of each camp. The rest come for 5 or more weeks.
We have so many kids coming from out of state or out of the
country, it's not worth it for them to stay just one week. And we
have so many activities, sometimes a week doesn't seem like quite
enough to experience it all!!
ACCOMMODATIONS
Q: Where do the kids stay?
A: The prestigious Squaw Valley Academy. A dorm style facility
with 4-6 kids per room with their own bathroom.
Q: Are the boys and girls separated?
A: YES!!! We are not that extreme of a camp!
Q: Is there supervision at night?
A: Yes, there is 24 hrs supervision. Counselors are
always present to assist campers needs.
MEALS
Q: What do we eat?
A: All meals are prepared with special emphasis on taste and
nutrition. There are always baskets of fruits available for
campers snacks. Lunch and dinner are always served with fresh
friuts and vegetables.
Q: Where do we eat?
A: All Meals are served Family style in our dining room.
Q: What about special diets?
A: We usually can accommodate special diets. We just need to
know ahead of time what the campers nutritional needs are.
LAKE TAHOE
Q: Where is Lake Tahoe?
A: Lake Tahoe is located in Northern California. The Lake is
divided in half by the California-Nevada State line. The camp is on the northwest end of the Lake,
about 40 minutes from Reno, Nevada and 3 1/2 hrs drive from San
Francisco.
Q: How's the Weather?
A: We are located in the mountains, at 6200ft. The summers here
are warm and clear with day temperatures averaging 82°F,
29°C. We seldom have any rain during the summer months. For
packing purposes, we recommend lots of shorts and T-shirts, a
pair of jeans, sweats, a warm sweater and coat for the evenings
(a complete list of what to pack is mailed to you when you sign
up)
Q: I'd like to plan my vacation in Lake Tahoe while my
kids are at camp. How would I do that?
A: Call and we will be happy to recommend places to stay.
